Current Projects
March 2026 - Kapasseni Elementary School in Mozambique was started in 1999 with funds raised through Canadian donations and Gettin' Higher Choir concerts in Victoria, BC. Desks were donated by the Canadian High Commision in Mozambique and they have finally fallen apart after much use from the many children who have been able to go to school for the last 27 years. Students are sitting on the floor and it is not the best way for them to learn. Teachers and parents have asked if we can help buy new desks. Each desk costs $55 USD($75 CAD) and will seat 3 children. We would like to purchase 150 desks and transport them to Kapasseni this year.
Emergency Response Fund - With climate change, Caia District increasingly faces drought, floods, and extreme weather such as typhoons and cyclones. These cause hardship and food insecurity for vulnerable local farmers, women and children. We have prioritized the need for a dedicated fund ready to provide support as soon as it is needed. Funds are still needed after Cyclone Freddie caused massive flooding, damage to buildings and food insecurity.

Food Bank and Preschool feeding programs are still needed for impoverished families, elderly, those who are ill and young children.
Scholarships for 3 nursing students, 3 agriculture students and 1 University student

Nurse's Residence - Three housing units are needed soon to accommodate more nurses and a pharmacist. The Kapasseni Health Centre is complete and new beds have been recycled and donated to the new Health Centre.

JOSEPH ALFAZEMA MEMORIAL FUND On May 11, 2019, the Caia Connection lost a founding member and pillar of work and inspiration. Joseph Khembo Alfazema passed away peacefully, with his family by his side in Edmonton. A special memorial fund has been established through Canada Helps for The Caia Connection. This project has started.

Seeking Knowledge Library - Donations will be used to purchase books and assist with library costs.
Agriculture - Specific donations can be made to help the moringa farm and the processing plant.

Traditional Music Program - Funds are used to provide instruments and teachers for traditional music and dance.
